Culture night

Every year on October 2nd, Radolfzell is transformed into a huge stage for the independent art and culture scene during the Culture Night.

The extensive program offers a variety of different events, including exhibitions of paintings, photographs and sculptures, music, dance, as well as literature, film and theater performances. The program takes place at various locations – from large conference centers to retail stores and small studios – so that visitors can be inspired by artistic performances throughout the city and its districts. This year, the anniversary will be celebrated artistically.

International Summer Academy Radolfzell

Since 1994, the master classes have been attracting students from all over the world to the lake and have presented enthusiastic audiences with a series of performances.

Anke Dill, Gustav Rivinius and Florian Wiek, outstanding international musicians and renowned university professors, lead the masterclasses in violin, cello and piano. They traditionally open the academy with the lecturers’ concert on August 4 in the Christuskirche.

During the daily master classes in the following week, interested visitors can directly follow the honing of technique and interpretation and experience the young course participants and their results on various concert stages in a series of open-air and evening concerts.

The highlight of the summer academy is the final concert and award ceremony in the Christuskirche. This is followed in September by the conducting master class under the direction of Zurich professor Johannes Schlaefli. In this second part of the Summer Academy, which was offered for the first time in 2016, six selected conductors are given the opportunity to work on a highly demanding concert program with the Lake Constance Philharmonic Orchestra and bring it to the stage.

Radolfzell 3226

Radolfzell is inviting visitors to a special exhibition at Villa Bosch to mark the town’s anniversary. In collaboration with the University of Constance and the Constance University of Applied Sciences (HTWG), students of history, communication design and architecture are developing an innovative and interactive exhibition that looks back 1,200 years and forward 1,200 years at the same time.

The focus is on the idea of a time capsule. For centuries, people have been preserving messages for posterity, hidden in foundation stones, church spires or attics.

They contain things of such great importance that they are meant to stand the test of time and may only be opened in the distant future. The exhibition takes up this tradition and poses the question:

What should Radolfzell leave behind for the future?

Which memories, experiences and hopes are worth preserving for future generations?

Visitors can expect an exhibition that not only provides impressive insights into the history of Radolfzell, but also invites them to explore the challenges of the present and visions for the future.

People can and should therefore contribute their own thoughts and wishes and play an active role in helping to preserve traces of the present for the year 3226.

In the end, everyone decides for themselves: What should be included in a time capsule?

Landlord’s party

The Hausherrenfest can look back on over 300 years of tradition: it has been celebrated every year on the third Sunday in July since 1725.

The festival has its origins in the veneration of the saints Theopont, Senesius and Zeno, whose relics have been kept in Radolfzell since the 9th and 11th centuries. As a result, the town developed into an important place of pilgrimage on Lake Constance at an early stage. Today, the Hausherrenfest is an integral part of the town’s life and strengthens the sense of home and community. Many people from Radolfzell return to their home town for this event. In addition to secular festivities, the solemn procession on Hausherrensonntag with the relics of the three patron saints remains the highlight. A special custom is the Moos water procession, which dates back to a vow made in 1796. At that time, the people of Moos asked for protection from a cattle plague in Radolfzell. Since 1926, they have made an annual pilgrimage across the lake in boats adorned with flowers on Landlord’s Monday. The pilgrims are ceremoniously welcomed in Radolfzell and escorted to the Minster of Our Lady.

The districts of Radolfzell are not only beautifully situated, they are also rich in historically valuable sights. The tour leads through the districts of Radolfzell and, with a route length of 30 kilometers and an altitude difference of 260 meters, is also suitable for bicycles without a motor, but not for racing bikes. Pedelec riders are of course also welcome.

Museum festival and vernissage of the special exhibition

On International Museum Day 2026, the Radolfzell City Museum will not only be celebrating the opening of the new special exhibition “Ratoldescella – Radolfzell”. The museum is also celebrating its twentieth anniversary within the walls of the historic town pharmacy. With an extensive program of impulse tours, hands-on activities, music and a book flea market, there is something for everyone with free admission. The special exhibition to mark the town’s anniversary traces the eventful life of our town founder through early medieval Europe. Emigrant fates and inn stories are highlighted. Paintings, models and plans show the vanished Radolfzell.
